JOB SUMMARY
The Custodian is essential to maintaining a clean, safe, and dignified environment for guests, staff, and volunteers. This role performs a wide range of critical tasks, including scheduled cleanings, sanitizing common areas, stocking supplies, managing linen services, processing donations, and preparing vacant units. The position requires a proactive approach to maintenance response, participation in emergency preparedness, and the timely reporting of all facility issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules for all assigned areas.
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms, showers, toilets, and sinks; keep them fully stocked with supplies.
- Mop, sweep, and vacuum all types of floors.
- Collect, dispose of, and manage garbage and biohazard waste.
- Wash interior and exterior windows and walls.
- Restock supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all dispensers.
- Change light bulbs and perform other minor tasks as needed.
- Report problems to your supervisor, including:
- Maintenance needs (water leaks, equipment repair).
- Safety hazards (vandalism, damage, pests).
- The need for more cleaning supplies.
- Prepare vacant rooms/units by cleaning and stocking them with essential items.
- Engage with guests, staff, and visitors in a professional, respectful, and trauma-informed manner.
- Coordinate the daily washing of all facility linens to ensure guests have clean bedding.
- Assist with collecting, sorting, and managing donations in the warehouse.
- Conduct continuous rounds of restroom and common areas to ensure safety and respond to issues.
- Perform deep floor care, including stripping, waxing, and buffing.
- Assist with pest control efforts and basic repairs of facility equipment.
- Monitor and report inappropriate or unsafe behavior to security staff and seek support from other staff, as needed.
- Assist with minor landscaping and exterior maintenance tasks.
- Support facility projects at other agency locations as needed.
- Attend mandatory agency trainings, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing Focused, De-escalation, Suicide Prevention, CPR, and more.
- Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as required.
- Follow all agency protocols for security, safety, and sanitation to maintain a clean and secure environment for guests and staff.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position.

Education and Experience
- Experience working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous housekeeping, custodial, or service industry experience preferred.

- Use basic computer programs (email, spreadsheets, and more) and have basic computer skills.

Physical and Equipment Requirements
- Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for at least an hour at a time or more.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, twist, push, and pull to perform job functions.
- Ability to use stairs or steps.
- Ability to safely climb stairs, ladders, and step stools.
- Ability to operate equipment and machinery, as needed.
- Wear OSHA-required protective gear for safety.
