Job Summary
As a Housing Advocate, you perform a wide variety of duties relating to working with these vulnerable populations. As a TRH employee you will be a part of a homeless shelter system that provides emergency shelter to over 1,000 individuals nightly, and permanent supportive housing to over 1,700 individuals each day. As an Advocate, you will:
- Provide quality customer service to our clients who may be in need of resources in addition to a warm bed for a night, greeting them warmly and addressing their inquiries professionally.
- Be stationed at the front desk, responsible for monitoring all activity in the lobby, building entrance, and surrounding area. De-escalate and relay any issues or concerns, such as client conflicts, excessive trash, shopping carts, or interactions with neighbors, to staff and management to ensure timely resolution.
- Observe and help regulate activities at the shelter, ensuring rules and procedures are followed.
- Provide clear and specific information to residents and instruct residents of shelter rules, procedures and available resources.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, identifying special needs, and referring needs to supervisor. This includes basic cleaning responsibilities such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning bio spills, and ensuring workspaces are tidy and prepared for the next shift, among other duties as needed.
- Answer phones, take messages, and respond to the public in a courteous and informative manner.
- Work with the rest of the team to ensure continuous monitoring of clients coming in and out, checking clients off the BMR (Bed Management Report) as needed.
- Operate as part of a team that strives to serve the unsheltered in our community.
- Follow the instructions of the Shift Supervisor/Lead.
As an Advocate, you will be trained to:
- Assist in resolving conflicts that may arise among residents.
- Write incident reports where appropriate. Maintain records of resident stays and maintain an accurate shelter log.
- Provide occasional crisis intervention and emergency interface with community resources such as EMS and law enforcement.

- Ability to set and maintain good boundaries, using Trauma-Informed Care as a guideline
