Job Summary 

The Road Home is seeking a highly motivated individual who is committed, compassionate, willing to be challenged, and who wants to make a difference in the lives of others. We are seeking a Safety and Engagement Specialist to work at Palmer Court, a Permanent Supportive Housing property located in Salt Lake City.  The Safety and Engagement Specialist will provide support to the property management and case management teams by engaging residents and their guests who may be engaging in disruptive behaviors at Palmer Court. The Safety and Engagement Specialist will engage in relationship building with security, residents, guests, and those who seek unauthorized shelter at Palmer Court by providing needed resources. In addition, the Safety and Engagement Specialist will lead the Palmer Court team in responding to incidents, assisting with welfare checks, and advising on overall safety of the building.

Key Job Functions

  • Take lead on walking the building , parking lot, and perimeter to assess any safety and maintenance issues and reporting back to property management and case management as needed. 
  • Take the lead on monitoring the parking lot for abandoned or unregistered vehicles and initiate towing process   when necessary to keep parking lot clear of these vehicles.  
  • Assist in exiting guests who have been trespassed or are unauthorized to be in the building. Where possible, offering exited guests community resources and support. 
  • Greet and collaborate with law enforcement as they arrive. Direct law enforcement to incidents as well as collect incident reports when possible. 
  • Review cameras when issues have been reported to direct the appropriate entity to the issue.  
  • Respond to fire alarms and direct staff and residents as needed. 
  • Take lead on safety procedures and training with all Staff. Emergency response, AED machines, first aid kits, sharps container and biohazard disposal, etc. 
  • Participate in staffing meetings and coordinate with property management and case management.  
  • In coordination with case management, reach out to identified residents to offer additional support.  
  • Ensure all signage is up-to-date and accurate.  
  • Provide weekly reports on interaction with residents  updates on safety items encountered during the week

Education and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Previous training and experience working with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders preferred. 
  • Training or experience in de-escalation techniques preferred

  10. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to contribute to the agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.  
  11. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. 

Physical and Equipment Requirements 

  • Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds . 
  • Ability to stand and walk for an extended period of time. 
  • Ability to enter guests’ dwellings, including climbing stairs.
